Spring is springing and the whole forest is fresh, green and we are welcoming more and more guests which is lovely and they remind me what a beautiful place this is! Friends visiting is also a great excuse to try some of the local eateries…
One I have been meaning to try for some time now is the Veg Table on the Rheenendal Road. I have heard great things about it but as it is only open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday it doesn’t always work out for weekend visitors but my time came and very glad I was too!
The restaurant is based in one of the old style, small wood houses on a farm and it only takes 16 people but the atmosphere is wonderful and the style very eclectic. Brett the owner is welcoming and friendly without hovering. Not that he has time to hover with only himself and one helper in the kitchen it is go, go, go.The focus is on seasonal, local vegetarian food but don’t let that put off any determined meat eaters the food is imaginative and satisfying.
The menu is a set four courses which takes the pressure of ordering or having that horrible moment when someone else has a better dinner than you! It also makes you try something that you might not normally order, my sister is not a mushroom fan but enjoyed the Trio of Mushrooms…
It is bring your own wine which keeps the cost (cash only) reasonable. So please give it a try but don’t tell too many people or we will never get in…
